The Scott Block Theatre

The Scott Block Theatre is one of Red Deer’s downtown historic multi-purpose black box theatre venue. Originally constructed in 1946 as a mixed-use building with retail, offices, and apartments, and later renovated in the early 2000s into a dedicated performing arts and event space. Situated at 4816 50 Avenue, the venue features a flexible main theatre accommodating up to 200 patrons in black box configuration, a 60-seat cabaret space, and an urban basement area suitable for diverse gatherings.[1] It includes built-in sound and lighting systems, fully licensed bar facilities, and an on-site events team to support productions and rentals. Originally built and expanded in 1952 by local developer Charles Scott, the building served commercial purposes until its sale by the Scott family in 1998; it was then transformed by Culture Link with municipal grants following Red Deer’s designation as a Cultural Capital of Canada.[2][3] Since 2008, ownership has rested with Artifact Properties, under which it has functioned as a hub for theatre companies, artists, and community events including plays, concerts, comedy shows, weddings, and corporate functions.[2]
